There are various types of group therapies, such as processing, psychoeducation, and psychotherapy. Groups consist of two or more members that have similar challenges or situations (i.e. drugs, parenting, domestic violence, trauma, gender issues, etc.).
Groups tend to meet weekly in a structured environment, either virtually or in person, creating a safe and comfortable setting. A characteristic unique to groups is the mutual support members provide one another. This support and validation from other group members help to facilitate personal growth and changes in a way that individual therapy can’t. Although experts and professionals can provide support and positive direction, the mutual exchange of information between group members is a powerful experience that often induces lasting change.
